What Are Super Duplex Flanges?
Super Duplex alloy has features to prevent corrosion from chloride-containing cooling solutions and other aggressive chemical process fluids. A family of stainless steel known as duplex is characterized by variable corrosion properties based on the composition of the alloy. They are called duplexes because of their mixed microstructure with approximately equal amounts of ferrite and austenite.
About 40-50 percent of the alloy's ferrite is present during the annealing process. This microstructure combines the corrosion resistance of austenitic grades with the strength of ferritic grades, as well as the corrosion resistance of super duplex. It is also highly resistant to sulfide stress reinforcement corrosion under sour conditions. Super Duplex Steel is a realistic remedy for chloride-induced stress cracking.
In addition to applications in oil and gas, seawater, subsea piping systems, heat exchangers and other sectors, Super Duplex F55 steel flanges are known for their high impact resistance.
The chemical, pulp and paper industries need steels that can withstand acids, acid chlorides, caustic solutions and even high temperatures. The high chromium content in Super-Duplex steels provides excellent resistance to these chemicals.
