If the high amount of carbon is an inconvenience in stainless steel 420 in the annealed state, a logical solution is to decrease this tenor, which is done in elinoxidable Type 410. As this material has a maximum of 0.15% carbon, this amount is not enough to remove so much chromium from the solid solution and, consequently, has a good resistance to atmospheric corrosion, both in the annealing and tempering condition.
