ASTM A106 steel pipes (also known as ASME SA106 pipes) are commonly used in the construction of oil and gas refineries, power plants, petrochemical plants, boilers, and ships where the pipelines must carry fluids and gases that exhibit higher temperatures and pressure levels. Due to their special use, ASTM A106 steel tubes can only be seamless steel tubes and can also be welded steel tubes.
ASTM A106 steel pipes are available in a size range of 1/2 to 28 inches, and in pipe programs from 10 to 160 (according to asme specification B36.10).
process
The raw material is killed steel, which is suitable for high temperature service, it is manufactured in one or more of the following ways: open home oven, blown oxygen converter or electric furnace. Primary casting can be combined with degassing or refining alone. Steel can be melted into ingots or continuously.
NPS 1-1/2" and then are available in hot finish or by cold stretched type. NPS pipes 2 inches and above are generally hot rolled. Hot-finished pipe does not need to be heat treated. The cold-drawn pipe will be heat-treated after the final cold-drawn pass.
In terms of material grades, A106 pipes are manufactured in grades A, B and C. The chemical composition of the three grades of ASTM A106 is shown in the following table:

Wall thickness: The minimum wall thickness at any point must not exceed 12.5% below the specified nominal thickness.
Weight: The weight of any length should not vary more than 10% above and 3.5% below the specified. NPS 4 and smaller batch heavy. Larger sizes will be weighed separately by length.
