Mechanical Steel Tubes/Tubes: Mechanical steel tubes are used for mechanical and light gauge structural applications. Mechanical steel pipes/tubes are produced to meet specific end-use, specifications, tolerances and chemical requirements. This allows for more specific property uniformity throughout the tube compared to standard tubing. While mechanical tubing can be produced to standard specifications when ordered, it is often produced with "typical" properties that focus primarily on the yield strength for a particular size and wall thickness. In some applications with severe forming, the yield strength may not even be specified and the mechanical tube is produced to be "fit for purpose". Mechanical piping covers a wide range of structural and non-structural applications.
Structural Steel Pipes/Tubes: Structural steel tubes used for structural applications. Standard tube strength requirements help dictate applications for which certain tubes are most appropriate. Structural tubing is often referred to as hollow structural sections or HSS.
