What is ASTM A276 material grade?
ASTM A276 is a standard material specification for hot-finished or cold-finished stainless steel bars and shapes. It covers various forms like rounds, squares, hexagons, and profiles (angles, channels, and tees) intended for corrosion-resistant and high-temperature service.
What is ASTM A276 UNS S31400 material bar ?
ASTM A276 UNS S31400 is a standard material specification for Type 314 austenitic stainless steel bars and shapes. Engineered for high-temperature and oxidation resistance, these bars are used to fabricate heat-resistant parts like furnace components, radiant tubes, and industrial oven equipment.
ASTM A276 UNS S31400 Round Bar Manufacturer
GNEE boasts over 18 years of experience in manufacturing and exporting special stainless steels, with products distributed across more than 50 countries worldwide. We offer simultaneous delivery for both bulk orders and trial sample orders of S31400 round bars. Our supply diameter spans Φ6mm to Φ350mm, supporting custom cutting to any length between 1m and 12m. We provide four distinct surface finishes: hot-rolled black, pickled white, cold-drawn bright, and precision-turned/peeled, all delivered in the standard solution-annealed condition.
The ASTM A276 314 stainless steel bars we supply can withstand continuous operating temperatures up to 1150°C under oxidizing conditions, and up to 1050°C for intermittent service. At a constant temperature of 1000°C for 1,000 hours, the oxidation layer thickness remains under 50μm-whereas under identical conditions, 310S exceeds 100μm. This ensures high resistance to scaling and spalling under thermal cycling conditions. Furthermore, it achieves a creep rupture life exceeding 3,000 hours under a stress of 100MPa at 600°C, making it exceptionally well-suited for load-bearing, heat-resistant components such as heat-treatment furnace racks, incinerator structural parts, and high-temperature petrochemical supports.

What is the difference between S31400 and 310S (UNS S31008)?
The silicon content of 314 (1.5–3.0%) is significantly higher than that of 310S (≤1.5%); this increased silicon content gives 314 superior resistance to oxide scale spalling under conditions of extreme heat and repeated heating/cooling cycles.
While 310S focuses more on weldability and general high-temperature applications, 314 is specifically suited for industrial furnace environments involving carburizing atmospheres or requiring exceptional oxidation resistance.
253MA vs. 314 Stainless Steel Bar: Heat Resistance
Type 314 stainless steel has a maximum service temperature of 1150°C (2100°F) and maintains excellent oxidation resistance in continuous, static high-temperature environments. In contrast, Type 253MA stainless steel has an optimal upper service temperature limit of 1100°C (2012°F) but can withstand intermittent high-temperature peaks of up to 1150°C (2100°F).
Applications of S31400 Round Bar
Heat treatment equipment: Industrial furnace conveyor belts, radiant tubes, annealing covers, and muffle furnaces.
Chemical/Petrochemical: Heat exchanger tube supports and high-temperature distillation column internals.
Power/Boiler: Nozzles and superheater suspension assemblies.
Other: Components for glass manufacturing equipment and flare tips.
UNS S31400 Round Bar Price Per Kg
The price of a UNS S31400 (AISI 314) stainless steel round bar typically ranges from $6.50 to $12.00 per kg (or $3,000 to $5,500+ per metric ton), depending heavily on the diameter, finish (cold rolled vs. hot rolled), and order volume. This heat-resistant, high-silicon austenitic grade trades at a premium over standard 304/316.
Delivery
In-stock items ship within 7 days; custom forged bars have a lead time of 30–50 days. We support FOB, CIF, and EXW trade terms. We provide free samples for testing and offer comprehensive technical services-including material selection comparisons (S31400 vs. 310S/253MA) and guidance on high-temperature welding processes-delivering a one-stop solution for the procurement and processing of raw materials for high-temperature components.
Quality Inspection
Each shipment comes with the original manufacturer's MTC (Material Test Certificate), PMI (Positive Material Identification) spectral analysis, and reports on tensile strength, hardness, and metallography. Third-party certifications from SGS or BV are available, and products meet NACE acceptance standards for the energy and petrochemical industries.

High-quality packaging
Depending on the diameter, length, and transport distance of the round steel, the following packaging methods are typically used:
Bundling: Suitable for medium-to-large diameter hot-rolled (black) bars or round steel with standard surface finish requirements. Bundle weights are generally kept between 1 and 3 tonnes to facilitate loading and unloading by forklift or crane.
Woven Bag / Stretch Wrap: Involves wrapping the steel bundles in an outer layer of woven fabric or plastic stretch film.
Wooden Crate / Case: Used for ocean exports, cold-drawn/bright bars, or small-diameter round steel prone to bending. This method protects against impact and deformation caused by bending.

FAQ
Is S31400 easy to weld?
It can be welded, but care must be taken. Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) or TIG/MIG welding is typically used.
Recommended filler metal: Use ER310 or ER314 welding wire that matches the composition of the base metal.
What is the maximum operating temperature for SS 314?
In an oxidizing atmosphere, the maximum continuous service temperature for S31400 is 1150°C (2100°F). It also maintains good performance under intermittent heating conditions, outperforming most 300-series stainless steels.
