ASTM A479 Grade UNS S41000 Stainless Steel Bar is a martensitic stainless steel bar that complies with the American Society for Testing and Materials ASTM A479 standard. It corresponds to Chinese grade 1Cr13 and Japanese grade SUS410. It offers good strength, wear resistance, and moderate corrosion resistance, making it widely used in industrial machinery and high-temperature component manufacturing.
UNS S41000 stainless steel bar contains Carbon (C) ≤0.15% and Chromium (Cr) 11.5-13.5%, with no nickel content and magnetic properties. According to the standard, its mechanical properties in the annealed condition shall meet: tensile strength ≥440 MPa, yield strength ≥205 MPa, elongation ≥20%, and hardness not exceeding 201 HB, providing a balance between strength and cold forming capability.
The AISI 410 stainless steel bars we supply include round bars, square bars, and hexagonal bars, with diameter ranges generally from 5mm to 500mm, while lengths can be customized according to customer requirements. Surface finishes include black hot rolled, pickled, and bright cold drawn conditions. Products are usually supplied in the annealed condition to reduce hardness and facilitate subsequent machining. For applications requiring higher strength, quenching and tempering heat treatment can be performed after machining, achieving a maximum hardness of HRC 45-50.

1. Customer's Core Challenges and Requirements
The customer is a leading local pump and valve manufacturer whose products are used in high-pressure oil and gas field environments. The client required that the 410 stainless steel bars not only comply with the ASTM A479 pressure vessel standard, but also meet the NACE MR0175 sulfide stress cracking resistance standard. In addition, extremely strict requirements were imposed on bar straightness (≤1mm/m) and internal structural density to ensure precision machining performance.
2. GNEE's Solution
Our technical team adopted a double tempering process to stabilize the mechanical properties at tensile strength ≥700 MPa and yield strength ≥500 MPa, while ensuring highly uniform hardness distribution.
100% Inspection: Full ultrasonic testing (UT) was carried out in accordance with SEP 1921-84 C/c level standards to ensure there were no internal porosity defects or cracks.
Third-Party Inspection: SGS was invited to conduct on-site sampling inspections, including chemical composition verification, mechanical tensile testing, and hardness point testing. All inspection items achieved a 100% qualification rate.
Packaging & Protection
1. Surface Protection
Anti-Rust Oil Coating: A thin layer of anti-rust oil is applied to the surface of the bars (specifically for black bars or acid-pickled surfaces).
Woven Strap Packaging: Entire bundles of bars are wrapped in durable woven fabric and reinforced with steel strapping (suitable for large-diameter black bars).
Wooden Crate Packaging (Recommended): For cold-drawn bright bars or high-precision round steel, fumigation-free wooden crates are utilized to prevent impact damage and deformation (bending) during transit.
2. Identification & Traceability (Marking)
Tags/Labels: Each bundle is affixed with a water-resistant label indicating the following details: Grade (UNS S41000), Dimensions/Specifications, Heat Number, Weight, Standard (ASTM A479), and the GNEE brand logo.
