What is 317L stainless steel?
Alloy 317L (UNS S31703) is a molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel with greatly increased resistance to chemical attack as compared to the conventional chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steels such as Alloy 304.

What is the difference between SS 317 and 317L?
Stainless Steel 317L is the low-carbon derivative of SS 317. The metal maintains its high strength and strong corrosion resistance; however, the carbon content does have several effects. 317L has greater strength under welding; its products are stronger.
What is the difference between 316L and 317L stainless steel?
SS 317L elements have more corrosion resistance than 316L SS. 317L stainless steel is better to perform in high temperature environments and with aggressive chemicals. 317L SS has a heat resistance up to 950°C (1742°F) than 316L SS. It is ideal for nuclear power plants and chemical processing machinery.
