Butt Weld Elbow

Dec 27, 2022

Butt weld elbow is hot pressed or forged steel elbow, its connection way is directly butt welding of elbow and steel pipe, the main manufacturing standards of butt weld elbow are generally GB/T12459 , GB/T13401, ASME B16.9, SH3408, SH3409, HG/T21635, HG/T21631, SY/T0510.

Butt welding is easy to automate and therefore has a wide range of applications.
Butt Weld Elbow Classification
1) Butt weld elbow is divided according to its radius of curvature, which can be divided into long radius butt weld elbow and short radius butt weld elbow. The radius of curvature of the long radius butt weld elbow is equal to 1.5 times the outer diameter of the pipe, i.e., R= 1,5D. The radius of curvature of a short radius butt elbow is equal to the outside diameter of the pipe, i.e., R= D. where D is the diameter of the butt weld elbow and R is the radius of curvature.
2) According to the elbow angle, there are 45 degree butt weld elbow, 90 degree butt weld elbow and 180 degree butt weld elbow.

Butt Welding Elbow Welding Process Resistance Welding
Butt is a type of resistance welding method that uses resistance heat to weld the elbow and pipe along the entire end face at the same time. When resisting butt welding, the shape and size of the end face of the elbow and the pipe should be the same, and the heating and plastic deformation of the workpiece should be consistent. The end face of the elbow and pipe, as well as the surface in contact with the clamp, are strictly cleaned. Oxides and spoils on the final face will directly affect the quality of the joint. Oxides and dirt on the elbow and pipe surface in contact with the clamp will increase contact resistance, increase wear on the surface of the workpiece and jaws, and increase power loss. Oxide inclusions are easy to occur in the resistance solder joint. For pipelines with high quality requirements, protective atmospheres such as argon and helium are often used to solve the problem.
