What is 1.4512 material ?
1.4512, also known as AISI 409 or X2CrTi12, is a stabilized ferritic stainless steel containing chromium and stabilized with titanium. Its good corrosion and oxidation resistance, excellent weldability, and formability make it a cost-effective choice for high-temperature applications, making it a popular choice for automotive exhaust systems. It can be processed into a variety of practical product forms, including sheet, coil, tube, bar, and wire. Detailed chemical composition and free samples are available.
What is 1.4512 stainless steel equivalent to?
The European EN standard 1.4512 is equivalent to the American equivalent AISI 409, and is also known by its chemical designation X2CrTi12. It is a titanium-stabilized, ferritic stainless steel, often referred to as "muffler grade" due to its common use in automotive exhaust systems.

1.4512 Stainless Steel
The corrosion resistance of 1.4512 stainless steel is roughly the same as that of Type 410 stainless steel. In other words, 1.4512 has higher corrosion resistance than carbon steel. However, its corrosion resistance is lower than other stainless steels with higher chromium contents. Therefore, 1.4512 has sufficient corrosion and oxidation resistance for use in many automotive and non-automotive applications.
Forming:
1.4512 stainless steel is easy to cut, punch, stretch form, and draw. For example, the forming properties of 409L stainless steel are very similar to those of carbon steel.
Weldability
Weldability of grade 409 is good up to about 2.5mm thick.
If welding of thicker material is necessary, then grade 1.4003 should be selected.
Supplied Forms
Production Standard: ASTM-A-240/A480, ASME-SA-240/SA480, Also, JIS and Euronorm standard.
Grade 409 / 1.4512 is a rolled product (sheet, coil and strip) material usually available up to a maximum of 2.5mm thickness.
Grade 1.4003 is similar though not a direct equivalent but is available in thicker sheets and plates.
