sus 310 vs. sus310s stainless steel

Apr 26, 2026

What is SUS 310 stainless steel?

SUS 310 stainless steel (equivalent to AISI 310/310S or UNS S31000/S31008) is a high-alloy austenitic stainless steel specifically designed to provide excellent heat resistance, with a maximum service temperature reaching up to 1100°C (2012°F). Containing 25% chromium and 20% nickel, this material offers exceptional oxidation resistance and strength in high-temperature, carburizing, and sulfidizing environments.

What is 310S material made of?

SUS 310S stainless steel is a low-carbon austenitic chromium-nickel steel (containing 25% Cr and 20% Ni), specifically designed to provide excellent high-temperature oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance, making it particularly suitable for applications in environments reaching up to 1100°C. Its weldability is enhanced-and high-temperature embrittlement reduced-through a lowered carbon content (≤ 0.08%). Common equivalent grades include 1.4845, X15CrNi25-21, and AISI 310S.

What is the difference between SUS310 and SUS310S?

SUS310S is the low-carbon version of SUS310. While the carbon content of SUS310 can reach up to 0.25%, SUS310S limits this upper threshold to 0.08%; this characteristic enhances the weldability of the latter and reduces the risk of corrosion. Although both grades exhibit excellent high-temperature resistance, SUS310S is generally the preferred choice in applications involving welding processes.

 SUS 310 vs. SUS 310S Stainless Steel:Weldability

Due to its lower carbon content (maximum 0.08% compared to maximum 0.25%), SUS 310S is more suitable for welding than SUS 310. The lower carbon content minimizes carbide precipitation, thereby enhancing corrosion resistance and reducing susceptibility to intergranular corrosion and cracking in the heat-affected zone. Both grades exhibit excellent heat resistance (up to 150°C).

SUS 310 vs. SUS 310S Stainless Steel:High-Temperature

SUS 310 (high carbon) and SUS 310S (low carbon) are both high-temperature austenitic stainless steels suitable for continuous service up to 1150°C, offering excellent resistance to oxidation and corrosion. SUS 310S is preferred for welded parts due to lower carbide precipitation, whereas standard 310 provides higher creep strength for structural applications.

SUS 310 vs. SUS 310S Stainless Steel:Application

SUS 310 (high-carbon grade) and SUS 310S (low-carbon grade) are high-temperature austenitic stainless steels suitable for extremely high-temperature environments (reaching up to 1150°C). SUS 310 is typically employed in applications where the structural components require maximum creep strength, whereas SUS 310S is better suited for welded components within petrochemical facilities, furnaces, and heat treatment equipment.

At Gnee Stainless Steel, we offer high-quality SUS310 and SUS310S stainless steel products, including tubes, bars, and plates, designed to meet your specific industrial needs. Whether you need SUS310 for extreme high-temperature environments or SUS310S for fabrication and welding projects, we have the right solution for you.
