ASTM A312 TP316L (UNS S31603) is a low-carbon austenitic stainless steel seamless pipe designed for high corrosion resistance and high-temperature service in petrochemical, chemical processing, oil & gas, and other demanding industries. It offers superior pitting and crevice corrosion resistance compared to standard 316 stainless steel due to its reduced carbon content (≤0.03%), minimizing carbide precipitation during welding and thermal cycling.
Adventages of ASTM A312 TP316L Stainless Steel Seamless Pipe for Petrochemical
Low-carbon anti-sensitization: Carbon ≤0.03% prevents intergranular corrosion during welding/thermal cycles.
High-temperature stability: Continuous service up to 925°C (intermittent 870°C), suitable for heat exchangers/boilers.
No post-weld treatment: Low carbon minimizes carbide precipitation, enabling direct welding.Austenitic structure allows cold bending/flaring.

What is the difference between TP316 and TP316L Stainless Steel Pipe?
The main difference between TP316 and TP316L stainless steel pipe is the carbon content, with TP316L having a significantly lower carbon level (up to 0.03%) compared to TP316 (up to 0.08%). This low carbon in TP316L improves its corrosion resistance, particularly in welded sections, because it reduces the formation of carbides that can lead to intergranular corrosion after welding. Consequently, TP316L is often preferred for applications requiring welding and post-weld annealing is not feasible.
Applications
Heat exchangers and reactors: High-temperature/high-pressure heat transfer components.
Acid and alkali pipelines: Used for transporting sulfuric, hydrochloric, and phosphoric acids.
Subsea pipelines: Resistant to seawater corrosion and microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC).
Sanitary piping: Contamination-free transport of high-purity fluids (FDA-compliant).
Bioreactors: 316L material withstands cleaning-in-place/sterilization-in-place (CIP/SIP).
GNEE is a manufacturer of 316L stainless steel pipe, producing all standards, sizes, and types of this grade. 316L is available in various grades and diameters. 316L stainless steel No. 40 pipe has a higher pressure rating. The pipe diameter corresponds to the ratio of wall thickness to nominal diameter and is therefore a measure of pressure-carrying capacity. DIN 1.4436 stainless steel No. 80 pipe is thicker and can withstand extremely high pressures.
ASTM A312 TP316L seamless stainless steel pipe has a smooth surface and low absolute roughness. This allows seamless pipe to be used in high-precision calculations and applications. SS 316L ERW pipe is resistance-welded and can be easily welded. We also offer a variety of ASTM A312 TP316L stainless steel round pipe. GNEE offers customers a wide range of 316L products.
