What is 310S stainless steel?
310S stainless steel is a high-alloy austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel, renowned for its exceptional resistance to high-temperature oxidation (with a continuous service temperature reaching up to 1150°C) and excellent creep resistance. It is typically utilized in high-temperature and corrosive environments. Its high chromium (24%–26%) and high nickel (19%–22%) composition renders it superior to 304 or 309 stainless steel; it is primarily employed for high-temperature components in furnaces, heat treatment equipment, and the petrochemical industry.
What is 310H stainless steel?
310H stainless steel is a high-carbon (0.04%–0.10%) austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel, specifically designed to enhance creep resistance and high-temperature strength; it is frequently utilized in environments where temperatures exceed 800°C (1472°F). As a heat-resistant alloy with exceptional performance, it is also commonly designated by the alternative name UNS S31009.

Can 310S be used as a substitute for 310H?
Direct substitution is not recommended in pressure systems. If 310S is used to replace 310H, under identical conditions of high temperature and high pressure, 310S may suffer structural failure due to insufficient creep strength. However, in non-load-bearing applications focused solely on oxidation resistance, the two are generally interchangeable.
What precautions should be taken when welding 310H?
Due to its relatively high carbon content, 310H is more susceptible to sensitization during welding-a process in which carbon and chromium combine to form chromium carbides, resulting in chromium depletion at the grain boundaries. When welding 310H, it is generally recommended to use matching 310H welding consumables and to strictly control the interpass temperature.
310H Stainless Steel vs. 310S: Price
Due to the limited market availability of 310H and the fact that it typically entails specific inspection requirements regarding grain size-its procurement price is generally slightly higher than that of 310S, and lead times may be longer.
If you are manufacturing stove components or welded structural parts, please prioritize the use of 310S; however, if you are producing pressure-bearing tubes for power plant boilers or petrochemical cracking furnaces, you must specifically designate 310H.
