316ti (UNS s31635) is a stable titanium version of 316 austenitic stainless steels containing molybdenum. Alloy 316 is more resistant to general corrosion and pitting/crack corrosion than CR-nitic - or conventional stainless steel (e.g. 304). At high temperatures, they also have increased creep resistance, stress fracture and traction. High carbon alloy 316 stainless steel is susceptible to sensitization, i.e. at a temperature of approximately 900 to 1500 f (425 to 815 C) to form chromium carbide at the grain boundary, leading to intergranular corrosion. To stabilize the structure and prevent chromium carbide precipitation, the source of sensitization is achieved by adding titanium to alloy 316ti. Stabilization is achieved by a medium-temperature heat treatment, in which titanium reacts with carbon to form titanium carbide. By limiting the formation of chromium carbide, sensitization sensitivity was significantly reduced. Therefore, the alloy can be used for a long time at high temperatures without compromising its corrosion resistance.316ti has the same corrosion resistance as 316L with low carbon emissions.
