Stainless Steel 304H

304H stainless steel is a material used for high temperature applications (650°C), due to its high resistance to deterioration mechanisms such as stress corrosion cracking, corrosion by polythionic acids, creep, sigma phase fragility etc., which are usually used in the oil industry in Catalytic Cracking (FCC) plants, specifically in the circuit associated with the Regeneration system. For the development of this research, 5 samples were taken associated with a pipe made of 304 H stainless steel that was in service for 15 years at a continuous operation at 650°C, of which 3 specimens per sample were machined to make impact test, totaling a universe of 15 specimens.

Hardness

3 hardness values were measured in the matrix and 3 hardness values in the phase for each sample extracted, in order to have sufficient data to determine the hardness of the Sigma phase, obtaining on average the results shown in Table 2.

In total the hardness in the phase was in the order of 269.4 HV, being 33.2% above the hardness of the austenit matrix of 202.3 HV. The maximum hardness obtained was obtained in sample C with 287.4 HV.
