What is 1.4435 stainless steel?
1.4435 stainless steel, also known as X2CrNiMo18-14-3, is an austenitic stainless steel with a low carbon content. It is a higher-alloyed version of 1.4404 (AISI 316L) and is known for its excellent corrosion resistance, particularly in chloride-containing and acidic environments. Common product forms include sheet, plate, thick plate, seamless pipe, welded pipe, round bar, square bar, flat bar, cold-rolled strip, hot-rolled strip, and wire. It is widely used in the chemical, machinery, and construction industries.
1.4435 material equivalent
The primary equivalent for 1.4435 stainless steel is AISI 316L or UNS S31603, which are internationally recognized standards for this high-corrosion-resistant, low-carbon, austenitic chromium-nickel-molybdenum steel. The material's EN chemical designation is X2CrNiMo18-14-3, also providing a comprehensive equivalent for the numeric standard.

Corrosion Resistance
1.4435 stainless steel contains 2-3% molybdenum (Mo), which effectively resists pitting and crevice corrosion. Compared to standard 304 stainless steel, 1.4435 also demonstrates greater stability in acidic (such as sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid) and alkaline environments.
What is the difference between 1.4404 and 1.4435 stainless steel?
1.4435 stainless steel is often compared to 316L (1.4404) stainless steel. 1.4435 material has higher chromium, nickel, and molybdenum content. Due to the combined effects of these elements, it is more corrosion-resistant than 316L (1.4404). It is also non-magnetic.
