What is 1.4057 material equivalent to ASTM?
AISI 431, equivalent to 1.4057, BS 431S29, and X17CrNi16-2, is a martensitic chromium-nickel stainless steel with a chromium content of 15-17%. Due to its high chromium content, this stainless steel offers improved corrosion resistance and toughness compared to similar steels with lower chromium contents. It can be processed into a variety of practical product forms, including sheet, coil, tube, bar, and wire.

As a chromium-nickel steel, the material AISI 431 (1.4057, BS 431S29, X17CrNi16-2) has good corrosion resistance. However, the material is susceptible to intergranular corrosion. Maximum corrosion resistance is achieved with a bright metallic surface.

AISI 431 (1.4057, BS 431S29, X17CrNi16-2) is magnetic (ferromagnetic), has a tensile strength of 800-950 N/mm² (heat-treated +QT800), and a density of 7.0 kg/dm³ (room temperature).

 

Weldability of 1.4057 stainless steel
Due to its high strength and corrosion resistance, this steel is particularly suitable for manufacturing mechanical parts subject to high mechanical stress, such as piston rods. This material can be used in temperatures ranging from -40°C to 400°C. It polishes well, but has moderate forgeability and poor machinability. It can be cold-formed. This stainless steel welds well with most welding processes.
