The primary difference between 410L and 410S stainless steels lies in their carbon content, a distinction that significantly affects their hardening, welding, and forming characteristics. 410L features an extremely low carbon content (maximum 0.03%) and is classified as a ferritic stainless steel; it offers excellent formability and moderate mechanical properties, making it highly suitable for structural applications. Although 410S has a slightly higher carbon content, unlike standard 410 steel, it does not readily harden or crack during heating and cooling, rendering it appropriate for welding and high-temperature applications.
