EN 10217-7, the European standard for technical delivery conditions of welded stainless steel pipes for pressure applications.
EN 10217-7 TP316L ERW pipe is a welded stainless steel pipe for pressure applications. It is a low-carbon, austenitic stainless steel alloy containing chromium, nickel, and molybdenum. Designed specifically for wastewater systems due to its high corrosion resistance, particularly to chloride corrosion, it is made by forming the steel strip into a tubular form and then electrofusion welding. This allows for welding without significant carbon precipitation, thus improving durability. It exhibits high strength and toughness, with a tensile strength typically ranging from 470 to 670 MPa and a minimum yield strength of 180 MPa.
Why is 316L stainless steel pipe so widely used in wastewater treatment plants?
316L stainless steel pipe offers excellent corrosion resistance, especially in the chloride-rich environment common in wastewater. Furthermore, it is strong and durable, capable of withstanding the mechanical stress and abrasion experienced in wastewater systems. The surface of 316L stainless steel welded pipe is easy to clean and disinfect, preventing bacterial growth and ensuring hygiene. Its rust and stain resistance mean it requires minimal maintenance. The long service life of 316L stainless steel round pipe reduces the need for frequent replacement, making it cost-effective in the long term.
