It is widely used in aerospace, petrochemical, and nuclear industries for critical, high-stress components.
What is 1.4545 stainless steel equivalent to?
1.4545 stainless steel is commonly known as 15-5 PH (or 15-5PH) and is a martensitic precipitation-hardening alloy widely used for its high strength and corrosion resistance. Its primary equivalents include UNS S15500, XM-12 (ASTM), and X5CrNiCuNb15-5 (EN). It is often considered a cleaner, more homogeneous alternative to 17-4 PH.

1.4545 Stainless Steel Heat Treatment
1.4545 stainless steel is a precipitation-hardening (PH) martensitic stainless steel whose mechanical properties can be precisely controlled through heat treatment.
The standard process includes solution annealing at 1020–1050°C, followed by quenching in air or oil, and finally aging at 480–500°C for 4–6 hours. After proper aging treatment, 1.4545 stainless steel can achieve a tensile strength of 1200–1500 MPa and a hardness of 45–50 HRC.
1.4545 Stainless Steel Corrosion Resistance
Due to its 16–17% chromium content, 1.4545 stainless steel, as a precipitation-hardening martensitic stainless steel, exhibits excellent corrosion resistance. It has good resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in freshwater and weakly acidic environments and performs well in industrial applications with low chloride content.
Compared to standard martensitic steels, 1.4545 stainless steel maintains its corrosion resistance even after aging heat treatment, making it suitable for chemical, marine, and hydraulic applications.
1.4545 Stainless Steel Strength
The main advantage of 1.4545 stainless steel is its high strength and moderate toughness. After precipitation hardening treatment, its yield strength typically reaches 1000–1200 MPa, tensile strength reaches 1200–1500 MPa, and elongation is approximately 8–12%.
