X5CrNi18-10 Stainless Steel: Corrosion Resistance
X5CrNi18-10 (1.4301 / AISI 304) is an austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel with good general corrosion resistance to natural environments, water, and organic/inorganic chemicals. It offers excellent oxidation resistance up to 925°C, though it is susceptible to pitting and intergranular corrosion in chloride-bearing environments or when sensitized during welding.
X5CrNi18-10 Stainless Steel: Weldability
X5CrNi18-10 (1.4301 / AISI 304) stainless steel possesses excellent weldability and is compatible with most standard fusion techniques (TIG, MIG, MMA). As an austenitic steel, it requires no preheating, but for heavy sections, post-weld heat treatment may be necessary to prevent intergranular corrosion. Filler materials, such as 308L or 308LSi, are commonly used.
Heat Treatment
Solution annealing: 1000 – 1100 ℃ (cooling: water, air)
Hot forming: 1200 – 900 ℃ (cooling: air)
Hardening
EN 1.4301 stainless steel cannot be hardened by heat treatment, but can be hardened by cold working.
Is X5CrNi18-10 magnetic?
The material 1.4301, X5CrNi18-10, AISI 304 and UNS S30400 has good weldability and good formability. In the solution annealed condition the material is non-magnetic.
What is the price of X5CrNi18-10 material?
X5CrNi18-10 (also known as 1.4301 or AISI 304) stainless steel generally costs between $1,000–$2,300 per ton for raw materials like bars or sheets, with higher prices for specialized items. Prices vary by form (pipes, sheets, tubes) and supplier, often requiring minimum orders of 1 ton.
X5CrNi18-10 Stainless Steel Application
X5CrNi18-10 (EN 1.4301 / AISI 304) is a versatile, austenitic stainless steel used for its high corrosion resistance, excellent formability, and weldability. Common applications include food processing, dairy equipment, household kitchenware, sinks, architectural cladding, chemical tanks, and automotive components, favored for its hygienic properties.
