17-4 PH (AMS 5643 / UNS S17400 / Type 630) stainless steel round bar is a high‑strength, corrosion‑resistant martensitic precipitation‑hardening stainless steel, combining excellent tensile strength, hardness, and good corrosion resistance. It is supplied in the solution‑annealed (condition A) state and can achieve optimal mechanical properties through simple aging heat treatment - for example, H900 aging (~900 °F) significantly increases strength, making it suitable for applications with stringent demands on high strength and wear resistance.

The 17-4 PH stainless steel bars we supply can be cold worked, welded, and fabricated using conventional shop methods. They offer moderate corrosion resistance, magnetic properties, and exceptionally high tensile strength, which is why SS 17-4 PH cold‑finished bars are ideal for high‑end applications such as aerospace components, pump shafts, gears, valves, and medical devices.

What are the differences between 17-4 PH stainless steel bar and 304?

In most environments, the corrosion resistance of 17-4 PH stainless steel bar is comparable to that of 304 grade, and it is generally superior to the 400 series stainless steels. However, it is not recommended for prolonged use at temperatures >572 °F (300 °C) or in extremely low‑temperature conditions.
